George Lodge

George Lodge

(British, 1860-1954)
Born in Lincolnshire (UK), George Lodge was a painter, illustrator and accomplished taxidermist. He was commissioned by the New Zealand government to provide plates for a proposed book on New Zealand birds.
Lodge studied bird specimens from a number of collections including the Natural History Museum and eventually supplied 90 plates to the Wildlife Service of the Department of Internal Affairs of New Zealand.
Sadly the book was never completed due to the illness of the author.
The Image Vault collection of George Lodge's birds has been reproduced with the permission of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
