Herbert William Williams

(1860-1937)
Born near Gisborne, New Zealand, Herbert W. Williams was an Anglican bishop renowned for his scholarship in the field of the Maori language. He was also very interested in the indigenous culture and traditions, and made a series of ink drawings depicting Maori rafter patterns (Kowhaiwhai).
